What's on the Frame, and More Granny Blocks ~

 Free form daisies are quite forgiving!

Good morning, Hope you are having a good day. Me? I'm sewing on the quilt frame this week. 

 

These are the "S"curls on the border

This is Nancy's Batik quilt, love the colors here! I'm doing a few things that I've never done before on this one. 

  
The backing is a very light batik, see the flower appearing on the roll?

First, this is a quilt that has a much lighter backing than the front, man, I get a bit nervous with all these stitches standing out!  


this is a big cornerstone flower on the 10 inch border

Second, I've not really done a quilt that I put an overall flower design on. 


 This free form, "flowing" flower is one that was shown to us at a quilt demonstration, and I've used it here and there on other quilt pieces. This time, I'm making it the overall design. 



I've drawn pages and pages, and now I'm jumping in!

Also, I am drawing on the quilt with this Fixion pen. I am not in the habit of marking for the quilt lines, but this will help with the scattering of blooms across the center of the quilt top, I think... it's taking time, but it is fun.


Oh, yeah, this is my first quilt to load onto the frame with the zipper leaders!

These are some of the fabrics used. The striped pieces added interesting designs in the small cut blocks.

Oh, these two purple houses finish the quilt along with Terry and friends. Now to get those put together!

Bits and Pieces

Hi! What's new? Well, I'm popping in to share a little bit ~

 We had our 36th Anniversary this week! On to 37...

 this  Moda "turnover" was gifted from Cindi, I'm doing some creating with it...

 ...just a few more tiny (3 1/2") houses...

and the 2 - 12 inch ones for May, in blue. Go see Terry's finished top, it's pretty cute!

 Two of these little chicks were made, this one is for my bff Beth, and the other one was given away tonight without a photo!!

 We have been enjoying a little popcorn... okay, we're stuck on it! I opened bag 3 of the old fashioned, pop on the stove kind... y.u.m.

 Some Lemon Squares and chocolate oatmeal cookies...something new once a week...

 ...look at these blooms! I never had an orchid before but a student last year gave me this one on Mother's Day. This year, it gave us one more stem/shoot, and about 20+ blooms...amazing. I was told it likes my kitchen window...

 ...not to be outdone, ONE bloom on the Christmas Cactus, it made me smile...

School: 16 more days, deadlines, hugs, close up class, running towards June 13~

"What I Did on Easter Vacation"

 The green houses for the houses quilt along - April's quota! These houses are a 12 inch block, not the 3 1/2 inch ones...

I haven't sewn on the tiny houses for a month, but I can't wait, I swapped some little window figures with Annette of Sunshine Yellow, and my sweet friend Kim from Pokeytown  donated to the windows, too!

 


  The "hot-crossed nine patch" for Block Lotto, I sure like this one in plaid.

 

 I made 9 for Block Lotto, and I like how Sophie put them on point...look, I made a heart!

 A little paint and a sale at our new Hobby Lobby...the pink bucket is for Lydia.

 ~ This tiny pot is waiting for her polka dots ~

(I make dots using an un-sharpened pencil, this one is a primary pencil with a bigger barrel.)

On our trip to Solvang, Beth and I played with this pieced pincushion pattern. 

Can you have too many cute pincushions?

We went swimming, sewed, watched tv, drove down by the ocean, 
and visited a really cool quilt shop in Buellton, Ca. 

called the Creation Station. 

The store was full of very creative quilts and antique sewing machines. 

LoVeD this shop! I wish it wasn't so far away ~

 So, now, I need to get ready for school again, but the break was wonderful! 

What do you know, 2 posts in 1 week, I'm shocked! LOL  :-}

A Little Sewing for This Week~

 
Poppin' in to say hi, and share the catch up sewing done here this week. I think this will be the year of the house quilts for me! I joined in with Terry's Houses Quilt Along, and finished January's on time.

But February and March houses waited until this week. We made 2 each, I just failed to show all six in the photo. April's houses are going to be green, maybe I can get a headstart....


This was a block that I paper pieced. I saw it and worked it out in my head until the puzzle was solved. Do you do that? Anyway, last time I showed it in pieces,

    and here it is together. Kinda cool!

The Davis household has been suffering with the flu. From Larry, to me and now Lydia. We are crossing our fingers that Jeff and Jerry make it through unscathed...but I'm home with a couple of sick days. Maybe there will be more sewing, and maybe I can catch up on reading blogs. ttfn ~

2012 Houses, and 12 Days ~

 


Here are the little projects of 2012. "Building Houses from Scraps" is the first project.

These are the little darlin's from Jeanneke are being seen everywhere.


 The first house has mysteriously disappeared...!

I thought to make only a small hanging, but they can be made from the littlest scrap of fluff, that I'm enjoying the challenge immensely. A 3 1/3 inch house!!?! Paper piecing was the only way to go, and who knows when I'll feel the need to stop?*vbg*

There was the other side of house making that made me want to do a blanket sized quilt, so then came Terry's Houses Sew Along. These seemed like a "must" after the tiny houses, so I joined in there, too. 

I've modified the pattern to one chimney, and I'm hoping to keep them all scrappy. Red was for January, orange for February, yellow for March...I believe we'll end up in a rainbow subdivision!

The Temecula Quilt Company shared "Twelve Days of Christmas"  mini sampler and I made 2. 

 

Both are put together, but not quilted yet. One was decidedly blue,

 but the other one is in blacks and reds. 

This is the border that has not been added yet.

The report cards are done for my kiddos and ready to be turned in, whew! 

Glad to have that finished...what ever will I do with a free weekend...lol!
