~ For Mom ~

Barb Davis, my Mom in Love, went home to be with Jesus this past week. She spent Mother's Day in heaven! She has been a valuable asset in many lives, mine included, and she is greatly missed. I have been absent from here in my sorrow, please forgive me.

Barb was a "get 'er dun" kinda gal. Where I may struggle with something I've made being not quite perfect, she would say "Keep going, learn from it for next time." She was industrious, creative, busy, ... constantly doing.

At 80, she had a part in sewing on my dd Lydia's wedding gown, and serving at the reception! She kept me challenged with my quilting, but she was so accomplished at any kind of sewing. When I was in my senior year of high school, she was our home ec. sewing instructor. She made matching gym bags for the basketball team that year from red, white and blue vinyl. I helped her make the cheerleader outfits. I kid you not, the only thing she wore at the time that she did not sew for herself was her nylon stockings-!! Truthfully, my own dear mom was who had taught me to sew and I was making garments proficiently by that age, so Barb would have me assist in the class, and I loved it. I found out later that she had pointed me out to Larry way back when (Larry and I began dating just before that year).

She carried a crochet hook and thread with her wherever she went, making huge wall hangings with fillet crochet. We have a piano topper custom made by her, plus a crocheted bedspread and numerous doilies. In her last years she was legally blind, but she made yarn rugs and several of them are in my home.

She was funny, spunky, feisty, outspoken, willing to pitch in where needed. She and Papa were faithful to each other, their kids and grandkids, and to the Lord. She served in church where needed, too, and her children are good people. Many of us are laymen in our churches, or are serving in the ministry today.

I've already said more than I was going to, but do you get the feeling there could be more to tell? Yes, there is.

This is what came to mind this week, so I'll close with this song.

A Few Pics ~

We started today at 4:15 a.m. to get the folks off to the airport. It has been a wonderful visit the last couple of weeks, and our first shared Thanksgiving with them for (too) many years. I have only a bit of photos to share, hopefully more to come. These are all purely candid shots... as if you couldn't tell....

The last of the hand sewing. I'm so thankful to Mom!

a close up...

The End of the Long Weekend

On the table beside a comfy chair, all the necessities to do the job: pin cushion, scissors,
Ott light, needle, thread, and a glass of mint iced tea
.

So, I was blessed by so many things this week, were you? God is good.
Lydia and I had Saturday morning to ourselves, and so we watched "27 Dresses" - good wedding/chick flick I guess, and we sewed and fitted on her dress to our heart's content!

I'm doing the (dreaded) hand sewing of lace applique for her neckline. It has yellow-head quilting pins showing, and I'm sorry the lighting is so poor (see the pincushion above, the lace is winter white!), but it's coming along! I worked on the three layers of skirt, and the zipper,

but I decided to finish the neckline before adding the heavy skirt, and it seems to be easier.

Here is what is left of the tree:

and here is the hole. I think it will stay this way for a while...

There are 3 busy days of school for the little guys, with a big Pilgrim and Indian PowWow. We cook on Tuesday, making Pumpkin Pie Cake, and Corny Corn Bread. On Wednesday, we'll be cooking Pilgrim Stew. After that, I'm out of school until the wedding is over. Larry's folks come in on Thursday, I cannot wait to have them here! See you all around, I'm sure.

Happy Creativity!

10/10/10, There's a Whole Lotta Projects Goin' On ~

Our daughter Lydia is getting married on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We have been working towards the preparations...somehow it seems the "to do" list is never ending. There is progress being made, but oh, so much to go!

She has made bracelets, earrings and necklaces for her bridesmaids; it is a joint effort to get the zipper bags done for each of them as the gift bag...

...also, she added pearls and pearl buttons to their sweaters they are wearing during the wedding. The bottom bracelet is hers, it's not done yet...but it is so pretty!

This week, she has been turning buttons into boutonnieres for the guys. She has her bouquets done....

These aren't finished. Do you see the little purple "light saber?" Jeff loves Star Wars...!

On Saturday, Larry cut the slits in the wedding announcements, yes we made those, too, my Larry is a graphic artist by trade! Lydia and her matron of honor punched snowflakes, threaded ribbon, folded, addressed and stamped envelopes-whew!- for about ten hours!

And "the dress" is still in this state as I write this:

Still more to do, and this one's on Momma's list. . .Oh, yeah. That's me.

Her bridal shower is on Saturday. One day at a time, right? Breathe deep. . . !

Hope your days are productive!
Blessings,
Pokey
