A Productive Weekend

I have said it before, I sure could get used to having a Monday off. Friday after school, I packed up and went to my dear friends Beth and Jerry's in Calimesa, CA. Beth and I had planned for a sew day, and it was productive.

Doggy "Starr" says hi!

While there, binding was completed on the checkerboard quilt ~

and we worked on a rug for Beth.

She received a few boxes of double knits around Christmas, and she cut 2 1/2 " squares. She drew a grid line on the base of the rug, also double knit, with a 1 inch line that continues around the oval.

We folded the squares into half square triangles, and laid them on top of each other. I sewed from the fold to the point, with about 1 half to 3 quarters inch of spacing- not really an exact science, here.

Larry's mom Barb has done a few of these "burr" rugs--is that what they are called?-- and Beth wanted to try it. I left it there for her to finish. Won't that be a nice rug to step out of the shower on?

I had a good Sunday at church. There was a guest speaker Sunday night and he really touched my heart.

Today, I've a bit of tummy troubles, so I've done chores, cooked and

enjoyed time with this knitting loom-sorry the pictures aren't so good. Lydia and Jeff both are doing these loom scarves, I wanted to give it a go...this is probably the closest I'll come to knitting.

The bright spot in my day is still getting to see this guy on the computer screen ~

*Sigh* I'll be glad to have him home on Friday night...!

"By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name." Hebrews 13:15

  2. That border going around your quilt just really sets it off !

I am CRAZY about that rug ! Finally, a GOOD use for double knit !

I still have people offer it to me when they find out that I sew...........up to this point, I've always cringed, and tried to change the subject !

  3. Congratulations on finishing checkerboard quilt. Doesn't it feel good to finish one? The burr rug looks quite interesting. What does it feel like in barefeet? Happy to hear you had a good church service. We played hookey because it snowed, the first snow for us this year. Us northerners, now transplanted southerners don't do to well in the cold - LOL! Skype sure has made our world smaller hasn't it? It used to only phone calls and letters years ago.

  4. What a nice weekend for you, Pokey. I guess the next best thing would be to go home to your waiting man. It seems like he's been gone a long time, but what a sweet reunion you will have soon, and very soon! :-) I love the checkerboard quilt - wonderful! Thanks for loving my scrappy trip stained-glass pic. I don't think I will be able to part with that one. I hope you have a good week. I'm sure you will be keeping busy.

  8. The checkerboard quilt is beautiful Pokey, love the back and the border! How fun to spend a couple of days with a friend doing what you love the most! I really enjoy the retreats when I do get to go to them, that time away with girlfriends and you all doing the craft you love is so refreshing.

4 more nights! Hoping it goes by quickly for you~

  14. Your quilt is outstanding. Love the rug, too. Best of all is your contact with Larry. Don't you remember, when we were young, we could only write letters. Long distant phone calls, especially to far off locales were too expensive.

  15. Gosh but your checkerboard quilt came finished so nice. So pretty the colors and the border and oh my the back, too although I have to be honest and say that Starr does add a certain flair that I know I wouldn't be able to replicate. The rug is so FANTASTIC. I mean - how cool is that?! Wow. You were so very productive. So happy you got to "see" Larry, too. Warm heart doubly with the and the speaker at Church! Have a great rest of the week.

  19. You did have a productive weekend! Sorry for your tummy troubles. I've not seen a knitting loom. I might like that since I seem to have a hard time keeping my stitches even when I knit. Have a lovely weekend, dear friend!
