I said I'd share...
We saw this neat old iron at a local thrift store on Friday afternoon, but it was priced $20. It was in a glass case, so I had to ask about it to get the price. The girl who was waiting on me said that it would be on sale on Monday, half off. Okay, I'll wait for half off.
Well, better than that, it was 75% off, and it was still there! *vbg*
I always try to say, if the Lord wants me to have it, it will still be there. (okay, sometimes that doesn't work out for me, but acceptance is a lesson, too.)
Iron lives at my house, now....

I love that kind of iron. They make wonderful door stops and book ends. I have a couple from our farm. However, *all* of ours had either a detachable wood and metal handle or a metal handle with the part the hand holds that was "wrapped" in wood. When ours were being used, they were heated by setting them on top of the wood/coal cooking stove.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had fun on your holiday.
What a fun find and great deal. Can you imagine ironing with it?? We're so spoiled, huh?
ReplyDeleteYou got a deal! We had an old iron like that growing up. I think it used to be my great-grandma's. Mom used it as a bookend for her cookbooks, ha. Those are some pretty quilted pads or runners it's sitting on/next to.
ReplyDeleteHow lucky was that....love the iron.
ReplyDeletelove that iron, i think my mom has some of these
ReplyDeletethat is a great find!!! I have an old one that I use for a bookend for quilt books
ReplyDeleteWhat a great buy, Pokey! When not gathering dust, an old iron make a nice doorstop too.
ReplyDeleteLove the old iron. We used to have one at our house when I was growing up....wonder where it ever went to? Really love your rocking chair and the story that goes with it. Great memories. Congrats on your win of the Scrap Basket book...I entered every day and hoped and hoped I would win too. I know I'll be buying that one.
ReplyDeleteWay amazing iron! Love stuff like that. =)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find and super price! Lucky you!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting a great deal on your new iron! I love those things!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! Glad you had the patience to get a good deal. :)
ReplyDeleteYou got a real deal. I love it!
ReplyDelete*vbg* . . . very big . . .?
ReplyDeleteWow, what extremes I can see in ONE DAY.
ReplyDeleteI went to a quilters' meeting and a lady showed me her iron that somehow went up and down.......making it stand an inch or so above the ironing board, rather than it's being placed it on it's end. And now here's the other end of the extreme. So tickled for you to get such a good buy on a 'desire of the heart'.
I, too, want to know what vbg stands for.....did you mean 'vgb' and maybe it means 'very good buy'?
Hey, peoples!
ReplyDelete*vbg* is Very Big GRIN! sometimes vbs is smile, usually the grin is when I'm bein' a smart aleck , not that I'm EvEr that.
Hugs to you, pokey
well how lucky are you?
ReplyDeleteI have been looking for one of those for a long time
just love the look of them!

I have 4 flatirons. I think they are so neat.
ReplyDeleteWhen I moved to NY from Fla. I left behind with girlfriends my iron collection and a real antique all wooden ironing board that I used in my front foyer as an entrance table, that thing was solid! Yes I still miss them....my irons and Fla. girlfriends!
ReplyDeleteby the way those irons look great as bookends, doorstops and in the kitchen on the counters.
Great find Pokey......enjoy.
Happy sewing
What a sweet iron - you got a great deal, but it looks like the Lord wants you to have it, confirming it with the 75% off! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find and a good deal too! I went to a thift store in the mountains last summer and took some great photo's of some irons and other neat stuff. Dear hubby loaded those photo's on his computer and I haven't seen them since. Hmmm..
ReplyDeleteOk girl, I'll admit it... I'm envious!! I price these irons every time I see them and I've never came across any with that price, darn. I want to collect them for my laundry room but none yet. I'm holding out for a good deal like you... hopefully one of these days, hehe.
