Thrift Store Iron

I said I'd share...

We saw this neat old iron at a local thrift store on Friday afternoon, but it was priced $20. It was in a glass case, so I had to ask about it to get the price. The girl who was waiting on me said that it would be on sale on Monday, half off. Okay, I'll wait for half off.

Well, better than that, it was 75% off, and it was still there! *vbg*
I always try to say, if the Lord wants me to have it, it will still be there. (okay, sometimes that doesn't work out for me, but acceptance is a lesson, too.)

Iron lives at my house, now....

This makes me remember a t-shirt I saw on a Fons and Porter show:

"Irony is the opposite of wrinkly"

On sewing today:
  • Ginny and I worked on her ocean blue quilt top, it's 2/3 done.
  • I'm still working on my border.
  • School tomorrow, see ya!

Happy Quilting!

  1. I love that kind of iron. They make wonderful door stops and book ends. I have a couple from our farm. However, *all* of ours had either a detachable wood and metal handle or a metal handle with the part the hand holds that was "wrapped" in wood. When ours were being used, they were heated by setting them on top of the wood/coal cooking stove.
Glad you had fun on your holiday.

  3. You got a deal! We had an old iron like that growing up. I think it used to be my great-grandma's. Mom used it as a bookend for her cookbooks, ha. Those are some pretty quilted pads or runners it's sitting on/next to.

  8. Love the old iron. We used to have one at our house when I was growing up....wonder where it ever went to? Really love your rocking chair and the story that goes with it. Great memories. Congrats on your win of the Scrap Basket book...I entered every day and hoped and hoped I would win too. I know I'll be buying that one.

  14. Wow, what extremes I can see in ONE DAY.
I went to a quilters' meeting and a lady showed me her iron that somehow went up and down.......making it stand an inch or so above the ironing board, rather than it's being placed it on it's end. And now here's the other end of the extreme. So tickled for you to get such a good buy on a 'desire of the heart'.

I, too, want to know what vbg stands for.....did you mean 'vgb' and maybe it means 'very good buy'?

  18. When I moved to NY from Fla. I left behind with girlfriends my iron collection and a real antique all wooden ironing board that I used in my front foyer as an entrance table, that thing was solid! Yes I still miss them....my irons and Fla. girlfriends!
by the way those irons look great as bookends, doorstops and in the kitchen on the counters.
    Great find Pokey......enjoy.

    Happy sewing

  21. Ok girl, I'll admit it... I'm envious!! I price these irons every time I see them and I've never came across any with that price, darn. I want to collect them for my laundry room but none yet. I'm holding out for a good deal like you... hopefully one of these days, hehe.
