School has hit the time of year that my head goes spinning: holidays, fundraisers, report cards, mandatory Parent/Teacher conferences, a field trip to Riley's Farm in Oakglen, all the projects that come with this time, and trying to keep it fun for the 26 students in my class.
Sewing becomes a dream of snatching any opportunity possible, but no such chance this week! I even went to my quilting class just to visit, and oh, dear, we have homework this week! *smile*
The above green project is to be a table runner my daughter Lydia is making for a Christmas gift. We've both decided that "runners" may be the gift theme this year. She was making a 4-patch, but opted to add a darker green brick, and I like the look. Stay tuned, there will be more of these to come (although, if I'm missing in action, you'll know it's with my kiddos)!

Today's Project
This will be a table runner for my friend next Saturday. Pauline will be 50 this year, and I was her daughter's Kindergarten co-teacher. Deandra is in her second year of college now, time flies!
Pauline's birthday is actually on Christmas Day. So, she's celebrating this one the best way, having a party, but not really gaining the year!

Let's Meet a New Friend!
I did my first "from the blogs" quilt this summer following Comfortstitching's Aneela through her half-hexagon tutorial. (See my header? That's the quilt I made.) She was such an encourager, and I started my Flickr pictures to be part of her 'pool'. Does any of this sound confusing to you? Well, some of it still amazes me, too :-} !
So, a few other projects later, and an attempt to contact Karen of Sew Many Ways, and --here you are, at Pokey's place!
And, so, (yes, I am always telling my second graders not to start their sentences with 'and'!) when Aneela introduced Jenny's brand new blog, Cut. Sew. Iron. Repeat, I said self, we are going to welcome the new kid. And get this, she's having a giveaway.
Go welcome her to the neighborhood!

Saturdays!
Well, congratulations are in order for Rose Marie of Applique 'N Patch Quilting! She won the 1000 post giveaway from Julia. Lucky girl!
And, Deb from Willowtree Treasures won the neat primitives from Firecracker Kid. What fun!
I sent my I Spy squares off this week to Karen. The Post Office said it will take 8 days, but I hope not. Also, we sent off a few pincushions to her, and to my sweet MIL Barb in Nebraska. Mom celebrated her 80th birthday this past May, and we flew back to be there. I had made a topper for their round farmhouse table. I wish I had a clear photo, I was happy with the little quilt itself. Here is Mom and Ginger, my SIL who had flown in from Texas to be at the big eight-oh. We decided after this trip that we just do not see our family enough. We also took a rag throw quilt I had made earlier, but that photo was impossible to make out!
Oh, yeah the title, Saturdays? Well, best laid plans were to quilt on a scrap top today, and instead I'm on K.P., yard work, laundry and installing a new toilet in the master bath. Oh, the life of a full time teacher in a school year. Now, you know why I love summer.

What's on the Frame
This is a project My friend Beth took on for a signature quilt. I'm trying to do loops in my quilting and not get too much red thread on the white, but the squares are seven by eight inches, and it is challenging with my "not long arm" machine.
It is the fourth quilt I've worked on since we bought the frame in July, I'm still learning and mostly having fun with it.
We have been praying for Terry and her husband John. He has had a life altering accident, and many months of therapy ahead. Please drop her an encouraging word, and pray for the healing needed for John and the family, won't you? She is a kind-hearted lady, and we wish them well. Laurie has a great idea for us quilters to make a square for a quilt, and send them a hug! Go see http://ayankeequilter.blogspot.com
God bless, and happy quilting, Pokey
